Q. How do I
join?
A. Since we have no dues or fees,
you are automatically a member by owning a RUBY.
Q. How much does it cost
to join the registry?
A. NOTHING. It is absolutely free.
There are no dues or fees of any kind. We support ourselves and the
NCM by selling items.
Q. I'm not the original
owner of my Ruby. I don't have the "build
sheet". Where can I get one?
A. As of August 1, 2000, the National Corvette Museum can send you a copy of your
build sheet for a slight charge. Contact the NCM at telephone
800-53-VETTE.
Q. Will I get a membership
card or confirmation that you have received my Ruby's information?
A. NO. Since we don't have any dues
or fees we don't have membership cards.
Q. What
"number" is my Ruby? Or, what is my "number" in the
Registry?
A. The "number" of your Ruby is the
last 5 digits of the VIN. The last five digits are known as your Ruby's
"Serial Number". It represents the number of 1993 Corvettes
that were built in sequence. Note that this is NOT just Rubies!
Since we are missing information on 8 Rubies it is impossible to tell what
sequence number of "just" Rubies you have.
Q. I have a 1993 Ruby Red,
automatic transmission, convertible. Can you tell me how many Rubies were
built with these options?
A.
YES, as of July 7, 2000!
The 40th Registry database is now available online. To play
"HOW MANY" or "FIND MY SISTER RUBIES", just click on
the navigation button "SEARCH THE RUBY DATABASE".
You must use the FULL 17 character VIN and ALL letters must be caps! You
can search for sister cars with the first option, and will get a total of eleven
Rubies; the five cars built before and after yours with your VIN in the middle
of the listing. OR you can search the database for HOW MANY with specific RPOs
with the second search option. You cannot combine the search criteria.
Please be patient, this database is constantly being revised. The
Registry would like to thank the National Corvette Museum for hosting the Ruby
Database on their server.
Q. Now that the RUBY
DATABASE is online, will my personal information be published?
A. NO, absolutely not! The
40th Registry will not release ANY personal data. The information
about the cars are online but personal owner information is NEVER released.
Q. I have found a friend's
Ruby on the PICTURE page. Can you send me his Email address?
A. NO! The 40th Registry will not release ANY personal
data.
Q. How can I get in touch
with all the Ruby owners in my state?
A. The 40th Registry will not release ANY
personal data. However, you could try posting a file to the RUBY TALK page of the web site. Readers could then respond on their own if
they want to.
Q. My friend has a Polo Green
1993 Corvette with the 40th Anniversary Logo on the leather head rests. Does this
mean that this car is a 40th Anniversary car?
A. SURE. Since the Corvette was introduced
to the world in 1953 all 1993 Corvettes are 40th anniversary cars. However, the
RPO Z25 "Anniversary Package" was Chevy's way of producing a special car
for the 40th Anniversary.
Q. I see
pictures of Rubies on the web site. How can I get a picture of my Ruby on
the web site?
A. Click
here for instructions.
Q. How many pictures of my Ruby
will you publish on the web site?
A. We will publish a maximum of two pictures
for a total of 3 years. At the end of 3 years your pictures will be
removed without notice. Of course, you can always ask for an extension (if
the page is still current) or resubmit.
Q. I have a technical/
mechanical/general question about Rubies. Where can I get answers?
A. Try the web site 'RUBY TALK'
pages. I recommend that you look over the pages first to see if your
question has been answered before. If not, enter your question. We
have lots of folks that read these pages and many are real experts. Most
of the questions are answered within a few days. Please remember that the
registry nor the responding person assumes any liability.
Q. Do you know how the
Ruby Red package came about?
A. Chevy was trying
to find a way to honor the Corvette's 40th Anniversary. Ms Sarah DeVries, a Chevy
designer in 1992, came up with the idea. Since the gem stone for the 40th
Anniversary is a ruby why not offer a Corvette with a special "Ruby Red"
package.
